DIY! Half barrels are available at most of the major home supply stores and they are graeat for patio gardens. Tomatos need vertical support but wire cages aren't very attractive so this project is for those who want a better presentation. A n octagonal base is routed to fit your barrel (all barrels are not sized equally) so that the top of the barrel edge fits into the channel. No knocking the top off when moving around the tomatoes! The base has  3/4" square mortises that receive the upright legs of a ladder frame to enclose the plant. Each of four ladders has a vinyl coated poultry wire stretched over it to provide stability to the frame as well as the plant. The poultry wire is a way to provide plant "braceing" flexibility by spanning the ladders with dowels or bamboo. The parts are described as well as the milling approach.
